At Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa have decided to open a Padstal selling our Roses, macadamia products and spa products.
Summerfields Estate is very well known for our macadamia products.
Macadamia oil is the non-volatile oil extracted from the nut meat of the macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) tree, a native Australian nut. Macadamia oil is sometimes used in food as a frying or salad oil, and in cosmetic formulations as an emollient or fragrance fixative.
Macadamia oil can be used for frying due to its high heat capacity along with other properties useful as an edible oil:
- It contains up to 85%monounsaturated fats
- It has an unrefrigeratedshelf life of one to two years
- It has asmoke point of 410 °F (210 °C)
- Has a flashpoint of over 300 °C (572 °F)
The seeds (nuts) are a valuable food crop. Compared with other common edible nuts, such as almonds and cashews, macadamias are high in total fat and relatively low in protein (table). They have a high amount ofmonounsaturated fats (59% of total content, table) and contain, as 17% of total fat, themonounsaturated fat, omega-7 palmitoleic acid.
In 2015, South Africa was the world’s leading producer of macadamia nuts with 48,000 tonnes compared to Australia’s 40,000 tonnes and the total global production of 160,000 tonnes. Macadamia is also commercially produced in Brazil, California, Costa Rica, Israel, Kenya, Bolivia, New Zealand, Colombia,Guatemala and Malawi.
Macadamia Butter is made from pure macadamia nuts blended until a smooth paste. Macadamia butter is great on a slice of toast with fresh fruit, honey or straight for the jar!
